Pointer in the Straw

Equipment: straw and pointer

Purpose: To develop depth perception, increase skill in making spatial judgments.

Procedure: Therapist holds straw in various positions while patient attempts to place tip of pointer into end of straw.
Therapist should offer all possible directions: horizontally, vertically, diagonally, different distances and heights. Patient may change hands.

Gradations:

  • Start with a large cylinder and a dowel, and then attempt smaller cylinders until patient able to do straw.
